Happy people are connected people - Developing your social network means developing yourself
Research in network science shows that our relationships are beneficial in life activities as diverse as job search, inter-firm collaboration, diffusion of innovation, and even being happy and keeping healthy. Our friends unlock a true treasury of resources that could be unattainable or invisible otherwise.
This highly interactive workshop familiarizes you with this knowledge while helping you develop ideas and concrete plans to leverage your own network for your personal and professional goals. You will learn to assess strengths and weaknesses of your current social network, devise possible improvements, and feel the power of networks and their hidden resources more generally. Specifically, you will use the tool “Networking Wishlist” to experience how you can tap into our collective network and fulfil your wishes.

From vision to change: shaping the story of your city
For the first time in history, our participatory tools give citizens more power than ever before, to make a change. Ecosystems become more interconnected, societies become more diverse. In an ever more interdependent society, it´s important to build open platforms to connect ecosystems with each other - international and beyond. Democratic engagement needs a number of communication tools available and accessible for every citizen. Open source platforms may be a key for information. But still there are many ways of communication: face-to-face, one-to-many, many-to-one, different media and various types (news, talks, chats, comments,...) – which are the most valuable ones? Furthermore, public spaces – where democratic engagement occurs – are changing – on- and offline. Therefore, civic identities are changing. But in what way?
How can we foster emotional engagement between citizens - not only the most connected ones - and the city, to improve their sense of belonging and ultimately to spark action?

Sacred chants opening circle
We welcome you with presence and music! This year, the Floating Fest will make space for Hólos .:. The Being Experience, on the waters of Canal Ourcq.Water represents very special elements in human life at our times: emotions, relationships, sexuality, creativity, co-creation and more. Human bodies are made of 70-90% of water. The more these inner waters move, the healthiest we are, and the more we are able to flow as we wish.Bring your instruments and/or just come in, while we play and pray for our inner Waters and the Waters of the Earth!

*A Hopi Elder from Arizona once said:"There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are torn apart and will suffer greatly. (...) Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above water.(...) Where is your water? Know your garden. It is time to speak your Truth. Create your community. Be good to each other. And do not look outside yourself for the leader. (...) All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. (...) We are the ones we've been waiting for."

Gender in the city: creating safer and more inclusive urban environments for women
In a city, people have different needs and uses of the environments they inhabit. The urban environment should be efficient and livable, and above all feel safe for everyone.A gender perspective is absolutely essential in the debate to imagine cities of the future, considering the different needs and uses for spaces which relate directly to a gender identity. In most of the cities, women and LGBTQA people are not safe or excluded from the urban planning. Taking gender into account in public policy is called gender mainstreaming. This panel will explore the need to build cities with gender and women in mind, from different perspectives, countries and cultures.

Democracy needs a serious technological update, here comes civic tech
Democracy is a work in progress and shall not be taken for granted. Aiming to address the structural flaws of our institutions  and stimulate citizen engagement, civic technologies find themselves in a deadlock. Although opening government through transparency, participation and collaboration has proven impactful, online participation is quantitatively and qualitatively low and, the technical infrastructure of some our online democratic tools is more opaque and centralized than our current institutions. Drawing on the experience of Open Source Politics in digital democracy as well as the expertise of international speakers, we will outline best and worst practices to build open and efficient concertation processes that guarantee sense, power and time.

Connecting Community Spaces in NYC with the World
The installation explores "culture-driven space" and the physical environment influence an experience. It explores the difference between the physical, tangible elements of a space and more the abstract, people-driven elements in creating a culture. The installation maps out and compares various co-working and collective spaces in NYC, such as Impact Hub NYC, NEW INC, The Music Building, Prime Produce, The Silent Barn, WeWork. It compares these spaces in terms of the following categories: space & logistics, experience design, building staff, culture & community, and programming strategy. The installation includes maps, photos, floorplans, and other content. The thesis is to consider the role of NYC, as a center point for international entrepreneurs, creatives, and innovators.
It welcomes participants to share information and images from their spaces around the world.

Old Power vs. New power

The concept of “new power” has been named by CNN as one of ten ideas that can change the world. Originally laid out as the Big Idea in Harvard Business Review and subsequent TED talk, new power offers a frame to understand the distributed and participatory models that are rising in business, life and society. It contrasts new power with the values and models of the “old power” world - and suggests that the battle and the balancing between old and new power will be a defining feature of our lives in the coming years. New power lays out a practical framework for understanding how power is shifting: who has it, how it is shared, where it is heading - and how some major players are co-opting these new forms of participation.

***Ancien pouvoir contre Nouveau pouvoir***

Barcelona’s Strategy for Digital Sovereignty: building the networked city from the ground up with citizens
What's Barcelona’s digital strategy? How can technology lead to more participation in democratic processes? Who should own and control city data? Can cities embrace a model that socializes data and encourages new forms of cooperativism and democratic innovation? How can cities promote joint initiatives by actors from the economy, civil society and politics, to ensure a sustainable, participatory and efficient digital transformation of governments and the economy?
This session will discuss Barcelona Rebel City strategy focusing on the right to the smart city and a sustainable, participatory and efficient digital transformation. A new exciting vision of where city governments start to think and experiment with what technology would look like if it served the people.

Designing incorruptable businesses with the Coop 2.0 Model
If we want to be serious about sustainability, we need to create seriously responsible businesses. How can you ensure a business follows its values – not just now, but in the long run, even if conditions change, even if the people running it change, even if it grows?
In this workshop, we will discuss the Cooperative 2.0 model and a set of structural elements that were designed to make purposeful businnesses “incorruptable”. Based on this input and on potential contributions by participants, we will then explore in more depth how to adress the challenge of ensuring value driven behaviour within existing or freshly started businesses.

Human & digital tools for emergent organizations
There are many new digital tools today that make it easier for organizations to work in a collaborative, distributed and remote way. But tech tools alone don't magically solve problems.

In this session practitioners from next generation organizations such as Enspiral, OuiShare, Socialfokus, Amanitas and Encode will share insights on how human and digital tools can be used effectively for new ways of organizing. Drawing from global experiments, they will discuss commons challenges and show how these experiences can be applied to any type of organization or team.

Some questions that will be addressed: How to balance enabling participation and agency of employees or community members while staying agile and focused? What does onboarding look like in organizations that are partially or fully open? How do you deal with “tool fatigue”? How to work in distributed teams, from multiple cultures? How do you ensure new organizational models fullfill legal and administrative requirements?

This session has two parts:
  • Panel discussion and Q&A with the speakers (30-45 min)
  • Interactive workshop, where you will discuss how to apply these tools to your organization(45 min)

Exploring Hyper-Gender and the City with Social Presencing Theater
Hyper-Gender is a movement exploring the paradigm shift happening in gender, identity and social interactions in the 21st century: going beyond the masculinity / felinity binary in the new economy, identity fluidity, new relationship frameworks, relationships, and changing the narrative about sexuality.
This workshop will be pioneering a collective exploration of how we experience, embody and envision a city beyond gender stereotypes and labels: inclusive, diverse and fluid. Join us to experience and explore gender dynamics in the urban space, using the Social Presencing Theater technique of the Presencing Institute

MEWEGAME: Inclusion in practice
The MEWEGAME is an interactive board game which enables players to practice community skills that make our society more inclusive and coherent. What's being practiced on the board enables organizations, individuals and communities to learn strategies and skills that are needed in real life for a more sustainable and ethical future. Delivering purpose, strategy and embodiment in a shared environment.
Together players create community functionalities which can be tested and evaluated during the game: liveability management and design, environmental regulation and development, interaction management, skills acquisition, acknowledgement of meaning, operations management, time span management, livelihood, care interaction, care awareness. Aiming for a circular economy and sustainable behaviour.
The game combines cooperative styles of cocreation as well as competition. Material access is promoted over profit. And community contribution and ethical wholeness over individual gain. Thus promoting another strategy to form, build and enable commons.

Beyond a gadget for participation, how to bring civic tech to the next level ?
If we think that civic tech(nology) was built as a set of methods and tools for citizens to gain back control in their political systems, how does it works in a multi-level system of governance?
Let’s take Europe for example; at the local, regional, national and supranational levels, a serie of public and private actors have the ability to participate and influence decision-making. Yet, we observe that the same ability for citizens, to participate and influence decision-making at each level of entry (local, regional, national, supranational) is uneven. Beyond the accessibility obstacles, the power being given is also uneven: participative processes at the local level, although direct, tend to deal mostly with urban planning while, at the supranational level, they tend to be advisory and, imbalanced by corporate lobbies influence.
Can civic technology overcome this democratic deficit and if so, to what extent? To what extent civic tech are able to empower citizens to gain back control from institutional decision-makers at every level of power?
Built on this problematic we have invited civic tech experts from around the world and, representing the different scales previously outlined; to inform us on the state of the art of civic tech and address the issues at hand.

Design for agency : creating systems that inspire action in anyone.

And what if the human is not the problem?

The design approach has transitioned from the industrial design for mass production and the functional modernism to the often marketing driven user-centered design of the 90’. But nowadays, the role of designers is evolving once again.  We are moving from “use” to “agency” and contribution.

So we need to develop the ability to engage with the people as participants, to see their desires and fears, and then to build contexts and systems to address those. As opposed to the “individual user” who is interacting with a smart product, the participants are engaged with one another and with their environment (or their context).

Today the methodologies of design and science affect one another, however, the design is not just a framework for participants, but something that is also, itself, participating.

This is a design that doesn't place the designer or the user in the center. A new approach has to emerge, one which optimizes for a different type of growth, concerned with designing strategies in which each person doesn’t just see themselves at the center of the world but helps to understand the impacts and consequences on our collective world.

  • Why should we move away from the user-centered design and what is the difference?
  • What would it mean to design for participants instead? For all the participants?
  • What is the role of technology for participants’ agency?
  • How are we gonna design the city, mobility, automation, power, ownership, economy?

Bossless Leadership: learning from the Enspiral Network
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

At Enspiral - a network of 250 entrepreneurs building solutions to systemic problems - we get things done with no named bosses. However, just because there are no bosses doesn’t mean there isn’t leadership.

In fact, leadership is paramount to highly functioning organisations. In the new world of work where teams and organisational are perpetually dynamic, responsive leadership is even more pivotal. At the same time, leadership is becoming more nuanced - more about service and facilitation than command and control.

In this Masterclass we will address leadership in bossless organisations and discuss and practice techniques, methods, theories and the really hard parts of leading without explicit control.

Our methodology draws on experiential theory from working at Enspiral and from our self managing livelihood pod with the network. We will also refer to our online training Practical Self Management.

We’ll explore how the systemic structure of our operating systems reinforce and unleash culture, and prototype new ways to lead, based on real-life experiments.
Join us if you want to learn while participating!

Topics that will be covered:
  • Benefits of bossless leadership
  • Catalysts: an experiment in service based leadership
  • Social contracts and agreements
  • Generosity, Facilitation, Stewardship
  • Decision Making
  • Deliberately Developmental Organising

Who is this class for?

Anyone interested in learning more about the real life practise of organising without bosses.

What will you learn?
  • Techniques of bossless leadership
  • Tools and processes for catalysing your team and organisation
  • An experience of the joy of losing control

How to (re)design a resilient organization (by Parsons School of Design)
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

While resilience is becoming a key framework to cities, entrepreneurs and organizations still struggle to figure out what it actually means for them and how they need to change the way they operate to become more resilient.

In this Masterclass you will learn a framework for organizational change, focusing on culture as a lever for change in the business model of both new and existing organizations that want to become more resilient.
The first part of the masterclass includes an introduction to urban resilience. Participants will learn to use a framework enabling organizations to operationalize resilience and adjust it to the needs of the organization, its key stakeholders and the local environment.
Then, following Edgar Schein’s argument that strategies are determined by organizational culture, the second part will focus on building a culture of resilience in both new and existing organizations. By applying a systemic design approach to complex problems, fusing design thinking with behavioral economics, organizational change and systems thinking, participants will learn how to [re]design a business model grounded in a resilient mindset and culture.
Who is this class for?

Entrepreneurs, corporate managers, people interested organizational change, strategic designers, consultants, people working on innovation in cities

What will you learn?

Participants will emerge from the masterclass with greater capacity to operate as creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and leaders in organizations in the context of urban resilience. Here are some of the questions we'll explore during the Masterclass:
  • what does urban resilience can mean for your organization?
  • how to change your organization's mindset?
  • how to design a resilient culture and a business model based on one?
  • how to overcome obstacles and resistance to change?
  • how to engage and inspire key stakeholders around urban resilience?
  • how to benefit from such a change?

Pentagrowth: a framework for cities as platforms
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

Urban participatory sensing is a socio-technical process in which citizens use lightweight and accessible sensor technologies to collectively monitor their environment by gathering and sharing data. Beyond its great potential to develop collaborative and open cities, most of the citizen sensing initiatives deployed have not been sustainable and scalable projects.

Based on the Pentagrowth model: the five levers of exponential growth, we have developed a framework that aids the orchestration of large-scale engagement to solve urban and citizen issues. Its aims is to promote citizen innovation for common good. We focus in the development and evolution of a co-created city commons that promotes the deployment of new or adapted technologies for daily environments. These city commons co-created by citizens can benefit to society as a whole as they enable the deployment of new solutions to local problems, the improvement of the existing infrastructures, the creation of a data economy and the development of new skills by its citizens. We have applied the framework in different contexts and issues throughout Europe (Bristol, Barcelona, Amsterdam among others) and collected valuable learning.

Who is this class for?

City authorities, Citizen groups, Open Hardware & Data communities, Corporations, startups, SMEs

What will you learn?
  • Understanding the five levers of exponential growth based of the observation of 50 fast growing organizations and how do they apply to cities.
  • A framework to design participatory urban issues problem-solving.
  • Understanding how a city commons can foster problem-solving and  entrepreneurship.
  • Real examples of application: learnings and outcomes.

Public speaking bootcamp: pitching with impact
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

Come prepare your OuiShare pitch, or gain skills needed to build up confidence and succeed in your next presentation.

Thousands of people flock to OuiShare Fest and similar events around the world, to not only learn and exchange ideas, but to also share and pitch their projects and concepts. BUT… will they and their pitches be remembered? It's no secret that Public Speaking is one of the most valuable skills one can acquire today. And like any skill, applying deliberate and systematic effort will yield significant growth, yet most people just rely on their untrained abilities and often pay the price.

This masterclass, with a public speaking coach with over 15 years of experience, will focus on building up your public speaking skillset to ensure greatest impact.

The international nature of our society has also made English the language that we often have to use when presenting information. If English is not your native language, you are likely to encounter additional stress that can get in the way of your success. We will work to help minimize external factors so you can focus on the content, which is the heart of your presentation.

Who is this class for?
Anyone who wants to learn how to become a better speaker and gain confidence when speaking in front of a group.

What will you learn?
The session will combine whole group exercises with individualized activities so that each participant receives the attention that they need. Participants will get:
  • Body language awareness techniques to optimize power and delivery;
  • Support in constructing the type of speech that the participants need (persuasive, informative, entertaining, etc.);
  • Speaking tips catered to video or live audience delivery;
  • Support in English language clarity;
  • Help in mastering elements of audience psychology;
  • Practice of speech presentation;
  • Handouts that will help prepare participants for future presentations.

Logistics meets APIs - Leveraging APIs for a more connected, automated world
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) enable 2 systems, software programs, applications, connected things to interact in an automated way. These programmable interfaces are at the origin of successful empires like Facebook, Salesforce, Google, Netflix, Paypal, Twitter, Amazon Web Services and so many more, by enabling them to scale out of their buildings. This is the era of the extended enterprise. And cities can do the same, leveraging APIs to be bigger than their walls.

In this masterclass we will discover what APIs are and how to think, build and expose them to benefit from the B2B sharing economy and more. We will address some of the cultural, technical, community and business challenges that APIs raise.
APIs make the world more connected, interoperable and are preparing the automation of the world. In a digital world, their design (open or not? free or not?) will determine the design of our future. But when automating, you need to integrate a lot of concepts to be sure to not automate mistakes. This is the challenge of the API economy.
Who is this class for?
This class is for all backgrounds and is made as much for technical as non-technical people. It is designed for entrepreneurs, designers, executives, innovation managers, people interested in organizational change, strategic designers and consultants.
What will you learn?
This masterclass has 2 parts, each of which consists of conceptual explanations, concrete examples and questions with the audience.
Part 1: APIs for a B2B sharing economy
  • API fundamentals
  • A cultural challenge “From project to product”
  • APIs for a B2B sharing economy
Part 2: Automatisation of IT and Business with APIs
API design: Interface design concepts, building consistence
API styles: Concepts, Concrete examples (gRPC, REST, GraphQL, Messaging, etc)
API architecture: Patterns, Concrete examples (Gateway, ESB, etc)
API management: Discovery, Exposition security, Access level management, Throttling, Cache layer, Orchestration, Developer portal, Gouvernance
API lifecycle management: Strategy, Design, Policy and security, Document, Test , Build, Test , Deploy , Monitor, Manage, Promote, Scale , Version , Repeat
APIs are a contract:  API Terms of Service, API commons

Logistics meets APIs - The last mile economy
Cities are the next platforms. Following 20th century urbanisation movement, now up to 50% on planet inhabitants live in a city. The high density of population creates new habits, new paradigm, and a new culture. We are evolving into homo urbanus.
In an era of fast digitalisation, where mobile and soon IoT will produce a data-pocalypse, where concentration of workers will create always more congestion, where pollution needs to be controlled and fought,  cities needs to adapt their infrastructure and prepare to be the 21st century platforms people expect them to be. Despite a “technical debt” which is the fact of history and architecture, they can prepare their digital infrastructure to be ready. Ready to help entrepreneurs, ready to help logisticians and transporters to accomplish the promise of the last mile economy. An efficient and resilient production and distribution network, to help people living in cities to be local, buy local, stay local. In this session we will receive actors working on out-of-the-box models to think the last mile differently, with technology and smart networks.

Entrepreneurial ecosystems in cities: overcoming the Silicon Valley model
Since the early days of the digital revolution in the 70s, Silicon Valley has been considered the global hotspot for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. It is still today a magnet for global talent and capital, and an inspiration for cities around the world that want to build startup communities.

But Silicon Valley is no longer the only template for driving innovation, jobs creation and local impact. As startup communities are popping up in every major city globally, this session will explore what makes a great entrepreneurial ecosystem, and how to build and nurture one in your city.

From 'Motor City' to food resilience: how Detroit has risen from the ashes
With the decline of the automobile industry, the city of Detroit has suffered an economic and demographic crisis, causing the municipality bankruptcy in 2013. From nearly 2 million inhabitants in the 1950s, the population fell to 700 000 people. With the city decline, access to fresh healthy affordable food became harder, qualifying Detroit as a “food desert”: according to the Fair Food Network, there is 10 grocery stores for every 100 000 inhabitants in Detroit, which is twice less than in nearby town Ann Arbor. And food access is even worse in neighborhoods with a high percentage of African Americans. As a response, communities have deployed adaptive strategies for food sovereignty and food justice: production, retail, education, policy making, land protection. Through food enterprises, communities are leading Detroit revival. Malik Yakini, Executive Director of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, is going to tell us how.

Happy [XXX] Lab : A prototype to celebrate, engage and catalyze city transformers
What happens when you put a social change leader, a local serial entrepreneur, a wellbeing artist, a kaospilot and a facilitator into a three-story house with a big garden in a city without internal nor external pressure to change (the capital of Switzerland) - for the duration of a summer with a mandate by the mayor of the city and a support network of over 300 leading Swiss companies to come up with an innovative approach to sustainable development?
Join us in the exploration of what we are learning and see emerging in this playful, rebellious and immature experiment to build a prototype for city transformation that is self-sustainable (offering a Universal Basic Income to the inhabitants of the lab), transferable (inspired by a playbook of shared experiences) and transitionary (with a clear expiration date to avoid new dependencies). Imagine what is possible if we connect like-minded experiments around the world to learn together in how to most effectively mobilize people to transform their world, starting with where, how, with whom and why they live?!

With Metropolitain.io, Dataveyes demonstrates how data can help shape and challenge the visions we have of the areas we live in, and how visualization precisely goes beyond the abstraction of data. It helps uncover actual meaning on our activities, our habits, our environments, and our cities

Logistics meets APIs - Open standards for logistics as a platform
What if we built a physical internet? An open and decentralized peer to peer network for physical goods production and distribution? They are building it.
Logistics and transports inside cities and between cities are too much designed in silos. We lose everyday huge resources, time, work, energy and money by not sharing common infrastructures. And moreover in the context of global warming where transports emits so much greenhouse gases. We can do better if we collaborate. As we did for the World Wide Web, we need to agree on standards and protocols to reduce the costs of integration and implementation. But contrary to the web, we need to consider lot more real world friction, these are not bits, these are physical goods! But as the logistics industry has a strong history of building standards, with the shipping containers, the barcode and much more, this  industry can think for the future, for the best of all. In this session, we will receive transporters and logisticians, industrials and researchers who are working to build this technical and business collaboration framework, and how they invest on open APIs to fulill the promise.

Food sovereignty: the rise of a new food culture
In a world of globalised industry, many States’ policies are increasingly dictated by private sector interests and agri-food corporations. In response, both cities and civil society are taking action to get back the control of their food system, and decide how food is produced and distributed. For cities it means for example building a green bell or enforcing local procurement for public canteens. But beyond territorial marketing, how can cities build local food policies that are really controlled by local inhabitants, and ensure food security, food justice and health? At a civil society level, people also take action, first by consuming differently, buying local, organic, fair trade. But beyond consumption, more and more people are getting involved in production or distribution activities : community gardens, food cooperatives, buying groups, urban farms. The DIY culture is penetrating the food sector, paving the way for the emergence of a new food culture. The panel discussion will explore the interplay between food policies and citizen initiatives in their ability to bring about food sovereignty and ensure the resilience of the food system.

Applying P2P principles in service design for the housing, mobility and energy sector

When moving from a vision to actual urban service design many new questions emerge. Some of the new questions are related to the challenge of articulating ideas into action, others related to the specific socio-cultural factors that define each city and its citizens needs. During this session we aim to identify and explore some of these questions - analyzing different ways of approaching them and potential consequences - with a group of international experts. The session will be focused around three topics that have been rapidly transforming in recent years: housing, energy and mobility. We have already seen how each sector is being shaped differently in every city according to the local needs and evolution of socio-technical applications. These topics provide a broad platform for discussion, enabling this session to explore the many possible futures that can be designed, and the related challenges and potential consequences.

Cities that make: the urban manufacturing Renaissance
A couple centuries ago, cities had to produce most of what they consume. Industrial revolutions introduced economies of scale and lower transportation costs, which increased global commerce. Globalization then led to an increased the global concentration of production, a phenomenon amplified by the digital revolution, network effects, and the new focus of industrialized economies on services - while they outsourced manufacturing to emerging countries.

But the same digital revolution gave birth to a new range of technologies, processes and business models for "advanced manufacturing" that is lighter, smaller, cheaper and more flexible, making it suitable again for production in cities. In short, we are witnessing a Renaissance of Urban Manufacturing, where connectivity, automation and digital fabrication have replaced the steam, smoke and noise of large factories of cities of past.

During this session, we will explore new opportunities and challenges of urban manufacturing for hardware entrepreneurs, makers, designers, policymakers and established companies.

What corporate innovation can learn from grassroots movements
Frugality flexibility and fellowship are three of the key lessons: Frugality is not cheap, it is economical, it is circular, and it is addressing minimal user demand with stacking option of additional features. Flexibility is achieved by preferring bundling options over blending of different features, forms and functions. Corporations can also learn how grassroots innovators exploit long tail of innovation by filling niches of unmet social needs and not aiming at the top of the scaling curve. That mindset means that corporations will always wait for problems to scale up so that they can sell scaled up solutions. Nothing could be more unsustainable. Diversity over space, seasons/time, sector, skill, social segments and structure of governance ( 6-S) is vital for inclusive innovation and development ecosystem. Grassroots innovators not only can teach getting more from less for more but also share the spirit of  Fellowship. Open reciprocal and responsible innovation system bring greater solidarity among fellow manufacturers, users, supply chain members and even regulators. Cities can become open  laboratories of compassion, collaboration and creativity, and co-creation between formal and informal sector through  symbiotic relationship. New business models will emerge when one builds capacities of the whole value chain members from homemakers, workers, consumers, supply chain members to even  hitherto excluded communities.

Leave no one behind: putting marginalized communities at the heart of urban innovation
How to help city managers to engage with those who are on street, work in shacks but are highly skilled, even if markets for their talents  have not evolved as yet. Open common spaces, create solidarity and communities.  Motivating private entrepreneurs and social innovators to invest in common creativity lab, art, culture and literary spaces even under flyovers, can help disadvantaged children to get coaching for academic studies but also arts, culture, skills and craftsmanship. Immigrants should not be enculturated in dominant culture but also expected to contribute their own folk culture, meanings, tales, fables, art forms, nutritious foods, elderly care networks, and technological skills. Community creativity and food labs may be created so that every poor person gets more nutrition and value out of every cent she spends on food or living. Various enterprises can create circular economy lab in their vertical so that poor rag pickers can add value to transformative value addition by blending informal and formal knowledge systems. Because minds on the margin are not marginal minds.

Cities as creative networks: a sensorial experience
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

How can city spaces become as creative as possible? How can sensorial network awareness be a tool for creating social cohesion and sustainable urban development?

This Masterclass offers a lived experience of new ways of relating to each other and our environment in cities. It will show how creativity, relationality and trust are critical for creating sustainable urban environments, with practical experiments.

How we can engage with the tension between normativity and creativity in public spaces? This is a central question raised by Charles Landry, author of "A Toolkit for Urban Innovators." Bodily network awareness is key for us to be able to tap into the innovative potential of complex systems such as cities.

The Masterclass will be a mix of group work, movement exercises and discussion on generative relationality and sensing ourselves connected in a co-creative web. Workshop participants will become aware of the organic and sensorial relationship between themselves, others and their living spaces; and a ‘sense of security’ becomes something not technologically implied, but truly felt. They will also be able to find concrete applications of this in urban planning and their own fields of work.

Who is this class for?

Urban designers, policy-makers, mobility researchers, data scientists, citizen organisations, artists, and anyone who wants to have fun and learn more about smart, creative cities.

The workshop is open to everyone, irrespective of previous experience with body awareness movement.

What will you learn?

  • Experience ‘city’ as creative network - of different people, materialities, intensities and technologies

  • Gain or deepen your network awareness as more than smart technology

  • Understand high relevance of citizens’ socio-cultural diversity and concepts of time to urban planning

  • Be inspired for urban development in line with human bodies and sensorial awareness

Platform Organizations: becoming a living, learning system
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

Platforms have completely transformed the way we do business in the 21st century. Networked business models are allowing companies to become platforms on which their ecosystems and stakeholders can share value easily.  Thanks to technology as well as the falling cost and complexity of large scale coordination, platform businesses are achieving large returns and impact with comparatively low investments. How can we apply the lessons learned from the tremendous success of platform models to other organizations?

This Masterclass will show how organizations can go beyond the traditional industrial, bureaucratic modes of management and be designed as living systems -- systems that encourage improvement and learning through interactions and relationships. This will be done by applying the Platform Design Toolkit methodology and canvases.

Who is this class for?
Corporate intrapreneurs that want to conquer markets and design better organizations. Startup founders that aim at disrupting incumbents with exponential growth. Social entrepreneurs that aim to achieve scalable impact. Consultants that help clients design innovations, and anyone wanting to understand how platforms work.

What will you learn?
This class will provide:
  • an understanding of what a platform organization is and the strategic pillars it consists of
  • An assessment of the current situation of your organization and how platform thinking could help you respond to challenges
  • A set of tools to (such as the platform design canvas) rapidly analyze an organization from the platform point of view and to design organizational changes that can be implemented as continuous experiments.

Systems thinking in practice: creating change through a systems lens (by Forum for the Future)
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

Systems do change. At the School of System Change we’re setting off with a purpose: to explore creating the change we want. Our mission is to map the emerging field of system change for sustainability, and get (lots) more people and their organisations inspired, geared up and venturing out to implement transformational change. We invite you to come along.

This masterclass presents a taster session of the School of System Change, where we will be using a systems lens to the challenge you’re working on*.
Together we will think in systems and design tactics which reach for wider impact. We will be collaborative, interconnected and learning through practice.

Who is this Masterclass for?

Whether you’re a total beginner or already thinking in systems, this masterclass will equip you to both think and act systemically.
This Masterclass is ideal for:
  1. Change agents: You’re on a mission to create positive impact and you acknowledge the complexity of the challenge ahead. You want to build your capacity in system change, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned practitioner.
  2. Representatives of organisations: You represent a business, foundation, charity or other organisation and you’re thinking about how to design and deliver a strategy that will have systemic impact and keep you future fit.

What will you learn?

Participants in this masterclass will:
  1. Understand and apply the principles of systems thinking.
  2. Experience and articulate the need for systems change.
  3. Gain confidence in their own potential as a change agent.
  4. Apply a systems lens to the change they are trying to bring about.

*Please note that this masterclass will require you to bring your challenge to the table, which can range from fighting ocean plastics to homelessness, to changing or influencing the strategy of the organisation you’re part of. It can be a side project or your full-time gig, anything goes! However, we’ll require a very short description of your challenge in advance of the masterclass.

The A to Z of Sharing Cities: what the sharing economy could mean for your city [In EN & FR]
Limited Capacity seats available

Masterclasses can be booked individually here and are included in All-Access tickets.

Citizens all around the world are discovering the sharing (collaborative) economy. Online platforms facilitate the exchange of goods and services at an ever increasing speed, whilst traditional businesses are exploring this new phenomenon rapidly, too. With the advent of the sharing economy, the digital world has made its definitive step into the physical universe of cities. The time has come for city governments to respond.

This masterclass will bring you up to speed on all the recent developments around cities and sharing economy. It's a two-sided story. On the one hand, this phenomenon offers opportunities for more social, sustainable and economically resilient cities. On the other hand, there are several challenges to address, like consumer and worker protection, market fairness and regulation. Every city is different so you will be served and challenged to think through an array of approaches.
You will learn about pioneering cities such as Amsterdam and Seoul, who have been developing the local sharing economy for years, as well as other cities that have started to act or react to the many aspects of the sharing economy.

Who is it for?
The masterclass is for city leaders and anyone with a specific interest in the sharing economy at the city level.

What will you learn?
Participants will get the chance to work on their specific challenges, for example issues around (un)fair playing fields, zoneing, insurance and taxes. We will also work on how the sharing economy can bring social cohesion, environmental sustainability and economic resilience to cities.
After the masterclass you will:
  • have a better understanding of how to make the most out of the sharing (collaborative) economy in your city, enriching the lives of your citizens
  • be able to design potential pilot projects to grasp opportunities and develop a vision of what role the sharing economy can play in your city.
This class is being offered in French and English.

Making money sacred: an intimate talk to recall the inner abundance
Can we create a system that supports businesses that both do good and are financially sustainable? Why is it key to understand and practice the consciousness of abundance, in order for communities and networks to truly embrace collaboration? How close are you and your partners to your own money? In this guided conversation, Vanessa Moutinho and Mounira Latrache are sharing their experiences while opening two businesses - one in Brazil and the other in Germany - both with the call to create change by transforming their own and people’s relationships with the energy of money (as a representative of our natural abundance). And by bringing awareness to the worthiness of people and the value of their gifts. This is an invitation for you to become (more) deeply intimate with yourself, by connecting with your money and exploring where your beliefs and habits about it have started, and how you can change scarcity patterns so as to help yourself, your business and our system thrive - starting inside.

Permanent Fishbowl: Cities of the world, unite!
This is a "permanent Fishbowl" panel discussion that will take place all day long to participants to share and reflect what they have learned throughout the days.

It will kick-off with the following topic:

Dangerous liaisons? Sowing seeds of shared culture to connect local changemakers and global institutions

How do global urban agendas and international frameworks (e.g. Habitat III, Susutainable Development Goals) connect on a local scale to practitioners and projects aligned to achieve similar goals? How are these relationships defined and facilitated? Is it easy to combine the agendas of actors which are so different - in terms of size, needs and operational processes - but who are both investing to achieve the same impact? During this session we aim to identify the challenges of this complex relationship: How are these relationships currently framed? How are they built in a day-to-day basis? What can we learn from past experiences? What aspects should be redefined, and how are they defined? During this session we aim to explore all these questions and more with a group of featured attendees from both groups - change makers and members of international organizations.

The Sharing City, a bizarre love triangle ?
The Sharing City model, experimented by Seoul and Amsterdam, implies and fosters a renewed relationship between public authorities, private actors and engaged citizens. While big platforms seem to take centre stage, other initiatives flourish in big cities and pave way for less regulation and more action. In medium-sized and smaller cities, the sharing economy is taking shape, answering their specific challenges such as ageing population or economic devitalization. A new alliance between all urban actors is made possible with collaborative tools and services. How to ensure that citizens interests are preserved? Faced with major environmental and economic urban issues, is the sharing economy up to the challenge?

Circle dances
Circle Dances are part of native cultures all over the world. It is a practice, a time and a place when communities connect around a common purpose - such as celebrating food harvest or a wedding, preparing for war, invoking spirits of Nature for special rituals, welcoming newcomers as well as newborns - through specific music and dance.Meet us at the heart of OuiShare Fest - the main plaza - for a Circle Dance around union and unity! Acknowledging each one's fundamental presences and reminding ourselves that we all belong, and that it's about time for us to move our circles to a next level of the spiral.

As we navigate urgent issues at both the global and hyper-local scales, national governments increasingly find themselves with few effective levers at either end. Connecting the crowd to make your shared dreams come true
There is no natural crowd. People are more and more individualized, social and public spaces are more and more rare. Through digital-social networks and the necessity of performance, we are more and more living in tunnels. Which people we meet, we love, we share with: there are the result of probilities’ algorithms. People are prisonners of circles. Circles of friends, people they meet when they were students, who they worked with and eventually married.

This workshop gives you an experience of how people dreams can empower the crowd. gather them. If you put the good technologies and user experiences, you can get out of the everyday prisons, of the high probabilities and make life a wonderful adventure (Chaplin), with serendipity and mystere. People will come and through a gamified experience, will make an unexpected social experience. To make live a city made by smart and empowered citizens.

Biodanza: a Proposal for Human Ecology
The ecological dimension of our human organizations implies the respect for the wellbeing of the individuals, the harmonious flow of the exchanges, cooperation and care, curiosity, creativity. It integrates skills as adaptation, possibilities of evolution and the dimension of pleasure. During this session, I will propose to experiment this ecological dimension through very simple dances. Some are individual, some in pairs, and others in groups. The movement induced by the emotion of the music and the presence of the others activates an inner and primordial knowledge which bypasses the filters of our representations. There is no need to know how to dance in order to join a Biodanza session. You are all welcome.

Massive Small, a toolkit for 'Radical incrementalists'
This workshop will present urban development as an art form in the context of complexity. It will clarify the part we play in influencing how our cities develop, with a focus on how we communicate with each other and build creative resilient relationships.
At the micro level it is the quality of these relationships that determine whether or not projects go ahead and how successful they become. Reconfiguring the adversarial touch points we experience in urban development processes is key.
The workshop will be interactive, using forum theatre as a way to explore the dynamics at play when confronted with challenging and complex situations. The facilitators of the workshop will be playing out the scenes and inviting the participants to come with insight and strategies to test out.
Whatever your role or position, you will walk away with a fresh insight into the possibilities within urban development and a few handy communication tools to get to work with right away.

Fab, resilient, circular or sharing cities: beyond buzzwords, what can networks of cities achieve?

Virtual or physical, local or international, general or specific, networks are emerging as new forms of creative and productive organisations able to handle great stakes of our times.

They use the power of collective to focus on common goals and common good. Collaborative and connected, open and distributed, networked communities are committed to causes of common interest by involving various energies: citizens, experts, companies, local and national authorities, researchers…

What would be the role of networks in a society in transition and speeding up where traditional organisations seem sometimes unable to face great challenges.

Bruno Latour.
